Los Angeles - Councilwoman Traci Park expressed her appreciation for the chance to join the West LA VA Ribbon Cutting ceremony, where two essential permanent supportive housing facilities for at-risk veterans were opened today. These 120 apartments will offer crucial aid to those who have bravely served our nation.
At Tuesday's campus reveal, Councilwoman Park highlighted the significance of permanent housing for veterans, asserting that "homelessness" and "veteran" should never coexist in a sentence.
Park recently spearheaded a unanimous LA City Council decision to adjust the veterans' AMI, helping to facilitate their move into permanent VA campus housing. Park’s work successfully resolved a bureaucratic hurdle that had previously prevented some disabled homeless veterans from obtaining housing due to income restrictions.
Park became aware of these barriers during the opening of Building 207, a VA housing project for 59 homeless and at-risk veterans. She worked closely with the Housing Department, the VA, and the PSH developer to rectify the issue.
Park stated, "These veterans are 100 percent disabled and 100 percent service-connected to the VA, and they will benefit immensely from living on campus, near the VA hospital." She emphasized the responsibility of elected officials to collaborate on solutions and ensure that the city's thousands of homeless veterans have a secure and stable home.
